Social Studies
We are exploring the first settlements in the piedmont and mountain regions of North Carolina. We will also be learning about the American Revolution. Some vocabulary to review for this unit are below.
Science
We are analyzing how health, nutrition, and exercise all play a part in our overall well being. We are creating menus that display healthy eating choices, comparing the effects that exercise has on our bodies, and researching the benefits of vitamins and minerals.
Up Next, we will be exploring the 5 phases of the moon and discussing exactly why night and day occur.
Writing
We are completing the editing and publishing portions of our first writing piece. We will then explore personal narratives (memoirs) by reading a series of texts from various authors to gain ideas. Students are continuously learning about the writing process, how important it is to edit and proofread, and conference with others.
Literacy
We are focusing on summarizing the key events in a text by reading non-fiction texts that have a problem and solution. An easy way to think of summarizing a text would be to ask yourself the following questions.
Up next, we will be discussing text structure, mood, and theme of poems.
Math
We are able to fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers. We are using the standard algorithm to add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers in the ten thousands and beyond. We are also planning strategies in order to solve multi-step word problems.
